5 February 2024 – What have I learned today?

Matthew 24: 12 INIV-UK)

“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”

Romans 1: 24-25 (NLT)

So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen.

Romans 11:33 (NLT)

Oh, how great are God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How impossible it is for us to understand his decisions and his ways!

When explaining to His disciples what the end times would be like, Jesus told them that the love of God for most would grow cold. Paul in his turn explains why. People wanted to do their own thing, so God let them. People chose to exchange the truth of God for a lie. When people are left to their own devices sometimes bad things happen. This also means that others choose to turn their back on God because they blame Him for letting the bad stuff happen. But we are accountable for our own decisions and actions, some of which have extremely far-reaching consequences.

Paul also explains that God’ s wisdom and ways are impossible for us to understand – we are only human after all. But God has proven Himself to be good to me and faithful to us when we call on Him.

Like a child who implicitly trusts a parent even when they don’t understand what’s going on, then we as joint heirs with Christ, and as children of God must do the same. God is not responsible for bad stuff, somewhere along the line that can be traced back to the actions of Humankind.

Dear God,

Help me to stay close to You, no matter what and with the faith and trust of a young child in a loving parent, because that’s what You are. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
