8 March 2024 – What have I learned today?

Leviticus Chapter 19: Verse 3 (NIV-UK)

‘The Lord said to Moses, ‘Speak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them: “Be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy. “Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.”

Hebrews Chapter 4: Verse 15 (NIV-UK)

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to feel sympathy for our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin.

Verse three of this chapter in Leviticus is the first of fifteen times that we read, either “I am the LORD your God” or “I am the LORD” in this chapter. However, the most important thing about this chapter is that, as well as establishing who God is, it outlines how interested He is in our lives. He gives a list of regulations and decrees that covers every area of life, and which are just and fair. At the time, it would have been so different to those other people round about. It was not restrictive, far from it.

It’s a good reminder that the God who is Holy is completely interested in every area of our lives. He doesn’t just want our worship when we turn up to church on a Sunday, although that is right and proper. He is interested in our relationships and how we treat others. We need never feel that we are overlooked or that no one cares about what we are going through. Not only is God the Father interested, but Jesus, the Son, came to live as we do, and can completely empathise with us. We are indeed loved by God. How amazing is that!

Dear Lord,

I will be forever grateful that the Lord, who is God is interested in every area of MY life, and that Jesus cam empathise with every situation I find myself in. Help me to remember that Your laws and decrees are for my good. Help me to live them as an example to others in following Jesus. I ask in His Name and for Your Glory. Amen.
