Psalm 34: Verse 15 (NIV-UK)
The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
and his ears are attentive to their cry;
Psalm 34: Verse 19 (NIV-UK)
The righteous person may have many troubles,
but the Lord delivers him from them all;
The reading about Zecheriah and Elizabeth earlier this week already showed that although they were both living righteous lives, they certainly didn’t have an easy one. But God knew all about that, and He knew what was to come, even in the midst of their hardest time and disappointments.
David too wrote this psalm when he was going through a particularly difficult time, but he could testify that God brought him through it. We are not exempt from difficult times once we decide to follow Jesus, but we are promised that He will be with us in and through those circumstances. They are not hidden from God, and He knows how things will be. Why do bad things happen to good people? We don’t know. God’s ways are not ours, but He will be with us through it all to help us in it.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for walking through everything with us. I’m grateful that we don’t have to face hard times alone. Please bring comfort to those who are struggling with their circumstances. May they cry out to You for the help that You are able to give. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
