21 June 2024 – What have I learned today?

1 Kings Chapter 10: Verses 1-2 (NIV)

When the queen of Sheba heard about the fame of Solomon and his relationship to the Lord, she came to test Solomon with hard questions. Arriving at Jerusalem with a very great caravan—with camels carrying spices, large quantities of gold, and precious stones—she came to Solomon and talked with him about all that she had on her mind.

The queen of Sheba heard about Solomon’s relationship with God. She had things on her mind so she came to him for wise counsel. And we read in the following verses that she was not disappointed. We can, of course take things that or on our mind directly to the Lord in prayer. But like the queen of Sheba, there is definitely a time when it is helpful for us to seek wise and trusted counsel, be it from a Pastor or a trusted friend or family member who we know has a good relationship with the LORD.

I have been fortunate since I was a young Christian to have had Godly mentors who have been a great support to me in my own walk of faith. Now that I am more mature, I hope that I would be able to support and guide others who are younger in the faith as they set off on their own journey.
However, even in his wisdom, Solomon fell short of following God wholeheartedly. Its great to have mentors and wise counsellors to support us, but we need to always remember that they need help and support too – they’re only human after all. That’s why we need to remember to support them by bringing them before God in prayer.

Dear God,

Thank You for providing me with the mentoring and support of wise counsellors. I ask that Your hand will bless and guide them always in their personal walk with You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
