Psalm 77: Verses 11-14 (NIV-UK)
I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will consider all your works
and meditate on all your mighty deeds.’
Your ways, God, are holy.
What god is as great as our God?
You are the God who performs miracles;
you display your power among the peoples.
We’re already more than half way through 2024. Whilst it’s God’s intention that we focus on moving forward in our journey of faith, there are times when it’s right and proper to focus on how much God has already done for us. Even half way through this year, we can take stock and be grateful. God is good all the time. We don’t need to look back in the archives of our lives to search for examples of His goodness and grace to us.
We learn from history about things and how to handle similar situations. That’s why the Bible has so much of the history of the people of God. We can see with the benefit of hindsight how much God’s hand was on their lives. Something popped up in my Facebook memories the other day that reminded me of the way God moved in a situation on my behalf. At the time I couldn’t see how the situation was going to pan out. I had to take a step of faith. But now as I look back over the things that did play out, I can clearly see God’s hand and give Him praise and thanks for His direction. That gives me the encouragement to continue on the road the next time I find myself in times of difficulty. The old hymn “Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done,” may seem a little old fashioned to younger folks, but its advice is sound. If we take the time to follow the hymn writer’s advice now and again, we will definitely feel all the better for having done so.
Dear Lord,
I’m so grateful for the blessings and evidence of Your guiding hand. I can say amen to the Psalmist’s statement “What god is as great as our God?” – there is none, yet we are privileged to be called Your children. Thank You. Amen.
