Acts Chapter 19: Verse 32 (NIV)
The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there.
Isaiah Chapter 30: Verse 21 (NIV)
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
The city of Ephesus was in an uproar, all because a merchant was worried about losing money. Things had quickly got out of hand and Paul’s companions and friends in the Ephesian church were in danger. Yet it seemed that the majority of those who were in the crowd didn’t have the foggiest idea why they were even there. They just went with the flow.
We need to be careful who we listen to when we are making decisions. Just because a majority of people seem to be going in a particular direction doesn’t mean that its right, or that this is the way we ourselves should go. We need to have wisdom and discernment and we can ask God for that. If we are open to what God has to say, He will never send us in the wrong direction, even if it seems we are going in a different way to everyone else.
Dear Lord, help me never to go along with the majority, just because it is a majority. Help me to always seek Your wisdom and guidance, knowing that Your way is always the right way. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
