2 July 2024 – What have I learned today?

2 Kings Chapter 6: Verse 33 (NIV)

While he was still talking to them, the messenger came down to him.

The king said, “This disaster is from the Lord. Why should I wait for the Lord any longer?”

Things were not going well for the King of Israel. Samaria was under siege and things were desperate. But he didn’t want to wait any more to see God’s hand intervene. We later see how God spoke through Elisha about what was just about to happen, and it came to pass just as he said, just the following day after the king had spoken these words.

Sometimes we get impatient and ready to throw in the towel, especially if we have been having what seems like a protracted time of trial. But God hasn’t given up. We don’t want to risk tying God’s hands by our decision to give up. God’s word will always come to pass if we listen and take heed. Sometimes His word is not dependant on anything other than His will, but sometimes it’s conditional to our obedience. Don’t let us let Him down. He’s never done that to us!

Dear Lord,

I know I can get impatient and not good at waiting but help me to trust that You will move as You have promised at just the right time. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
