31 August 2024 – What have I learned today?

Micah chapter 5: Verses 8-9 (NIV)

Do not gloat over me, my enemy!
    Though I have fallen, I will rise.
Though I sit in darkness,
    the Lord will be my light.
Because I have sinned against him,
    I will bear the Lord’s wrath,
until he pleads my case
    and upholds my cause.
He will bring me out into the light;
    I will see his righteousness.

Romans Chapter 8: Verse 34 (NIV)

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

1 John Chapter 2: Verse 1 (NIV)

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

 Although the book of Micah is a reminder of how far Israel had fallen away from God, it’s also a look forward to the redemption that was to come for the world through the coming of Jesus. These two verses are a good description of how we feel when we have sinned. We can choose to sit in the dark feeling sorry for ourselves, or we can turn back to God, put ourselves into His hands, and receive His mercy. Even when there are consequences to the things we have done wrong, God will bring us out into the light, because Jesus has paid the price for our sin, and is now an pleads our case – and its not a hopeless one. However, its our choice whether we continue to sit in the dark feeling sorry for ourselves, or we throw ourselves on God’s mercy, and get the opportunity to live the life He intended us to.

Dear Lord,

I am in awe of Your mercy and grace that is available to all who will come. Thank You that You never write us off and that we can put our hope in Jesus who pleads our case. Help me to remember that when I am dealing with others. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
