28 November 2024 – What have I learned today?

2 Peter Chapter 3: Verses 3-4 (NIV)

Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.

2 Peter Chapter 3 verse 15 (NIV)

Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.

Today there are many who will dismiss the promises contained in the Bible that have not yet come to pass. Some may even scoff and make fun of its teaching. Others who do believe may still become impatient to see the promises fulfilled. In some ways, the last option is understandable giving the state that the world finds itself in. However, it is humbling to realise that the reason for the delay is so that God can extend His grace to as many as possible. He truly doesn’t treat us in the manner that our sins deserve. His patience with those who mock, shake their fist, or ignore His warnings is a miracle that I don’t think any of us can truly understand. Perhaps we do a little more when we have taken that step of faith, as we begin to understand just what Jesus has done for us. When we do begin to realise the consequences of God’s patience with us, we must be careful ourselves not to become impatient with anyone, or to demand that God moves as quickly as we would like Him to. God is still in control and knows exactly what He is doing. We need to learn to exercise the patience, which is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

Dear Lord,

Please help me to cultivate the fruit of the Spirit that is patience brought about by the confidence in knowing that You are always in control. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
