1 John chapter 2 verse 27 (NIV)
As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.
Romans Chapter 11 verse 29 (NIV)
For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.
The Biblical definition of anointing represents consecration, setting apart, and empowering individuals for a specific purpose ordained by God. Those of us who have made the decision to follow Jesus are blessed to have the Holy Spirit living in our hearts. We know that if God calls us to do a particular task or work for Him, He will give us everything we need, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and under His particular anointing. We need to recognise and act upon the anointing when we sense the Holy Spirit’s prompting. Once we have experienced that we need to continue to be sensitive to it.
Sometimes there may be a season of waiting to move out in the anointing, and sometimes there will be a season where we are regularly used by God in a particular way. The more we move in obedience to the Holy Spirit’s prompting, the more we will be used, not because we are special, simply because we have been obedient.
But I have also found through my own experience that where there is a change of circumstances, particularly ones we can do little about, we might wonder how we will be able, because of this change to operate under the anointing as we have previously done, but God makes a way, and it may be a completely different way than it was before. Yet, the recognition of the Holy Spirit’s moving is unmistakable, and the anointing is still there.
Many years ago, I was ministered to during a worship service and told that I would be called to teach God’s word. As time passed, that did come to fruition in a particular way and I recognised God’s hand as things developed. But as our fellowship subsequently closed and I had to move to a new spiritual home, I couldn’t see how the gift would be used as it had before. But it is being used in a different way, and one I could never have foreseen. So, God proves that He will move in whatever way He wishes, and as long as we are obedient to Him, we will always recognise His hand and anointing on our lives. He chooses how to move through us, and when. We just need to let Him.
Dear Lord,
Help me to remain sensitive and obedient to Your anointing and the Holy Spirit’s prompting so that Your will can be done in my life. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
