Psalm 1 verses 1-2 (NIV)
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
Galatians chapter 5 verse 25 (NIV)
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
As 2025 begins many will be resolving to get themselves physically fitter and healthier. They may join a diet programme, a gym or fitness class, and make every effort to increase their daily step count. But our spiritual health is more important since it determines where we will spend eternity. Yet its easy to neglect it.
The first psalm gives us advice right at its outset as to how to take care of our spiritual health. Let’s not keep in step with those who have no interest in spiritual things.
As followers of God, we need to take each day a step at a time and in step with the Holy Spirit, for as Christians we have been made new and need to walk the way that God intended us to. That means not trying to keep pace with anyone else, except walking side by side with the Lord. Not having to keep up with anyone else’s expectations takes the pressure off us. God’s word and His Holy Spirit will ensure that we don’t go off on a wrong road this year as long as we keep God as our focus. That’s a good resolution to start off this New Year.
Dear Lord,
As this year begins, help me not be concerned in following the crowd, but to resolve to keep my focus on Your ways and direction for me as 2025 unfolds. Thank You that I don’t need to take any steps without You by my side. Amen.
