Psalm 3: Verses 2-4 (NIV)
Many are saying of me,
“God will not deliver him.”
But you, LORD, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the LORD,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.
These verses are a reminder, at the start of this new year, to be careful whose voices we pay attention to. People may have different opinions about our situation and how we should be living our lives. Some will be skeptical about our faith or the decisions we have taken. But the most important voice to pay attention to is that of the Lord. David reminds us in this psalm that when we call out to Him, He will answer us, and He will also put a shield of protection around us, if we allow Him to, so that we are not affected by the voices that we shouldn’t be paying attention to, even if they are well-meaning ones.
Dear Lord,
Thank You that as long as I listen to You, You will lift my head high, so that my focus is on You and not on the obstacles or hard times that may come my way. Help me to tune in to what You have to say, and be less concerned about the opinion of others. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
