14 March 2025 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 33 verses 16-22 (NIV)

No king is saved by the size of his army;

   no warrior escapes by his great strength.

A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;

   despite all its great strength it cannot save.

 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him,

   on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,

to deliver them from death

   and keep them alive in famine.

We wait in hope for the LORD;

   he is our help and our shield.

In him our hearts rejoice,

   for we trust in his holy name.

May your unfailing love be with us, LORD,

   even as we put our hope in you.

Isaiah Chapter 40 verse 31(NIV)

but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.

The verses in this psalm are a timely reminder of our importance of putting our hope in God and not in anything else. Heads of Government may put their hope in might and power but that means nothing in the eyes of the Lord. It is reassuring to those who know and love God that His eye is watching over those who know and love Him. In spite of what comes against us, if we keep faith in God, He will never let us be put to shame. That doesn’t mean we will not face difficult times. The Psalm tells us that the people had to face times of famine but that God would keep them alive in spite of that. He will keep our feet on solid ground as long as we hope and trust Him.

David also reminds us that by trusting in God we can still rejoice, even in those trying times, just as Isaiah reminds us that if we hope in the Lord, we will renew our strength. That will allow us to walk and even run without becoming weary on our life journey. This is definitely something that is worth remembering in these turbulent and uncertain times.

Dear Lord,

It is reassuring that Your eyes are always on us. You see our circumstances and give us the strength to deal with them, as long as we put our hope and trust in You. Thank You for Your unfailing, steadfast love. Amen.
