Numbers chapter 7 verses 2-5 (NIV)
Then the leaders of Israel, the heads of families who were the tribal leaders in charge of those who were counted, made offerings. They brought as their gifts before the LORD six covered carts and twelve oxen—an ox from each leader and a cart from every two. These they presented before the tabernacle. The LORD said to Moses, “Accept these from them, that they may be used in the work at the tent of meeting. Give them to the Levites as each man’s work requires.”
Psalm 84 verse 11 (NIV)
For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.
2 Corinthians chapter 9 verse 7 (NIV)
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Here we see giving and provision in action. God wanted the tabernacle to be established and the people gave freely everything that was needed for the work of God. God expects us to give freely whatever He lays on our heart to give. He doesn’t expect us to give what we can’t afford, but He expects us to give what he asks for, even if we find it hard. The widow didn’t withhold her two mites. She could have put one in – but she gave all she could. I believe she did it willingly and without compulsion.
In return if God wants us to do something for Him, He will make sure we are well equipped. He will give us exactly what we need, whether its words to say, or funds or equipment to do what He requires from us. We read that God withholds nothing from us if we walk before Him as we should. He is no man’s debtor. But therein lies the most important thing. We need to do our part and then He will surely do His.
And we need to do it cheerfully and willingly.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for all Your provision and blessing. Help me never to hold on to anything that You ask me for, no matter what it is, or how hard it may be to hand over. Thank You that in return You provide all that I need from Your abundance. Most of all may I also be a cheerful giver. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
