Luke chapter 6 verses 43-45 (NIV)
“No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
Sometimes appearances can be deceptive, especially if we come into contact with someone new, or that we don’t know very well. There are times when its right to put on a face and conduct ourselves as convention expects us to. But its often in the difficult times that our true character and behaviour is seen. If I was facing a difficult time as a youngster, and even as an older adult, my dad would encourage me by saying, “ show them what your made of, lass.” So when the chips are down, what are we made of?
Recently a post appeared on my Facebook newsfeed that reminded me of this. It reads, “Anyone can act like a Christian in church on a Sunday morning. But how do you react when
- The Barista messes up your coffee order.
- Another driver cuts you off on the highway.
- The referee blows the call in your child’s football game?
That is when the fruit is revealed isn’t it?
Dear Lord,
Help me to remember who it is I am meant to reflect. May I be a true ambassador of Christ allowing His light to be reflected in my life , no matter the circumstances. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
