1 April 2025 – What have I learned today?

Luke chapter 8 verses 43 – 44 (NIV)

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her.  She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.

Luke chapter 8 verse 49 (NIV)

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”

One line in this account of two separate miracles spoke to me today…”Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”

Both the woman and Jairus were desperate for Jesus to move in healing power. The woman felt she could not approach Him publicly because her condition meant she was unclean. But she had faith to come up behind Him and touch the hem of His robe. That was enough. Christ knew she had been healed. He wanted her to speak up so that she could be restored to her community in her healing. To publicly tell her she was no longer an outcast. That’s why I believe He spoke out as He did. He could have turned round and spoke to her . I believe He knew it was her who had touched Him, but in speaking to her publicly, He healed her spiritually too. She didn’t want to bother Him, but He made her whole. Jairus, on the other hand was very public about his need , and Jesus was on His way to meet it for him, until the messenger came and said , “Don’t bother Jesus anymore.” He could have just as easily said, “what’s the point?” because that’s what he actually meant. But Jesus told Jairus to believe and he saw his daughter raised from the dead.

Sometimes its easy to think, I’ll not bother Jesus about this matter, be it big or small. Often it’s the little things that we think we shouldn’t bother the Lord about. But we should always remember He is interested in every aspect of our lives; the wee issues as well as the big ones. He wants us to speak to Him about all of them. Its never a bother to Him.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that You want us to withhold nothing from You, big or small. You love us and know us better than we know ourselves, but You want us to bring all of our life issues before You, so that You can move in us and through us. Thank You for reminding me. Amen.
