Mark Chapter 1: Verses 12-13 (NLT Version)
The Spirit then compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness where he was tempted for forty days. He was out among the wild animals, and angels took care of him.
It was the Holy Spirit who led Jesus into the wilderness. We sometimes wonder why we go through a difficult or challenging time. Occasionally they happen as a result of our own actions, but sometimes it is because we have something God wants us to learn. My dad would often say to me if I was facing a challenge, “Show them what you’re made of!”
We don’t have to rely on our own strength during such times – the Holy Spirit is our teacher, our counsellor and our guide. At the end of His time of temptation Jesus was attended to by angels. In the garden of Gethsemane, an angel ministered to Jesus in His distress. During times of trial, God wants our focus to be “ Lord, what do You want me to learn?” rather than give in to despair. But we also have the Holy Spirit Himself to lead us through our challenges.
Dear Lord,
Help me to trust the leading of the Holy Spirit, wherever He wants me to go. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
