8 May 2025 –What have I learned today?

John chapter 5:36-40 (NIV)

“I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing —testify that the Father has sent me. And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

John chapter 10 verse 10 (NIV)

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

We all know the saying that actions speak louder than words. Sometimes that’s true, and its one reason why the way we live out our lives as followers of Jesus is so important. Jesus explained to the religious leaders of the day that the works He was doing on behalf of the Father were His testimony, but still, many didn’t believe in Him. The leaders had said they had put their trust in the scriptures, yet they didn’t believe what the scriptures said about Jesus.
People will come up with excuses if they don’t want to do something. But we need to be careful not to make excuses. Many of us have seen God’s hand at work in our lives and in the lives of others. We are blessed to have unhindered access to the inspired word of God and we have the Holy Spirit at work within us. We are therefore without excuse. Let’s therefore rejoice and be glad that we have life which we can live to the full because of the work of Christ. That seems appropriate today on the 80th anniversary of VE day.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the evidence of Jesus work in us and in others. Thank You for the word of truth that is a light to our path. Help me to live the life that Jesus dies to give me and to be an effective witness to others that they too can share in it. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
