9 May 2025 – What have I learned today?

John chapter 6 verses 8-9 (NIV)

Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up, “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”

Andrew didn’t dismiss the boy’s offer of the five loaves and two fish, because he brought the boy and the offering that was so freely given, but he wasn’t totally convinced that they could be of use. Sometimes when God wants us to do something we might be a little uncertain, perhaps whether He could use us, perhaps that He could step in to the situation, but if we at least come willingly, even in our uncertainty, God can change our hearts and we can take a leap of faith.

It also struck me that Andrew could have been impacted by the young lad’s willingness to give up his own food, and that may have been the reason he brought the boy to Jesus. Our attitude, and how we react in difficult situations can make a big impact on others, even if we feel we have nothing much to offer.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the young lad’s willingness to share, and Andrew’s willingness to accept his offering. May I be willing to be obedient to You, even if I am uncertain. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
