11 May 2025 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 59 verses 9-10 & 17 (NIV)

You are my strength, I watch for you;

   you, God, are my fortress,

 my God on whom I can rely.

 You are my strength, I sing praise to you;

   you, God, are my fortress,

   my God on whom I can rely.

Personally, I think two qualities that are really valuable to have are strength and reliability. When we are having a difficult time, we can really appreciate the strength and reliability of someone we can trust. There id nothing worse than being let down by someone. Here in three short verses, we see David using the qualities of reliability and strength to describe part of God’s character. Not once, but twice. David couldn’t always rely on his friends and advisors, and sadly at times, even his own family, but he could rely on God. No matter what, He could run in to the fortress that is God. And in that certainty and trust, he could also praise God, no matter what. And in that lesson from David, we see that so can we!

Dear Lord,

Thank You that no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in we can always rely on Your strength when we sometimes can’t rely on ourselves or others. And in putting my trust in You, help me to praise and glorify You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
