Proverbs Chapter 15 verse 16 (NIV)
Better a little with the fear of the LORD
than great wealth with turmoil.
How many times have we seen or heard in the media about people who appear to have achieved great success, possibly wealth and popularity, yet they will testify that it’s not everything they thought it would be? Some are even unhappy with their lot. Yet still many strive for wealth, and popularity, even if it’s only for their 5 minutes of fame. How many young people today want to be an influencer with thousands of followers following their every word? We want the, best for ourselves, and especially our families, but we want them to be content, which I believe is even more important than being happy. If we are content we are at peace with our circumstances whatever they are. We know as followers of Jesus that this is a gift He left for those who believe and trust in Him. Therefore the thing that we would be best to pray for our families and those we love, particularly our young ones, is that they would know the fear of the Lord. That is the knowledge of who He is, and the right respect and honour He is due, as well as the gratitude for our reconciliation to Him through Jesus. Surely that is the true wealth we would wish for those we love.
Dear Lord,
It is a blessing to have more than enough wealth and possessions, but it’s not the most important thing. Without Jesus we would have nothing. Help me to pray more for those young people in my life who are finding their way in the world, that they would find the peace and security of knowing Jesus, then everything else will fall into place for them. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
