Acts chapter 28 verse 2(NIV)
The islanders showed us unusual kindness. They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold.
Romans chapter 2 verse 4 (NIV)
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
Colossians chapter 3 verse 12(NIV)
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
I was struck by how much the kindness of the Maltese people made an impact on Paul. It’s a quality that is mentioned much in the Bible and often in teaching by Paul himself. Kindness is a fundamental virtue in Christian theology, deeply rooted in the character of God and exemplified in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. It is an essential aspect of the Christian life, reflecting the love and grace that believers are called to extend to others. The Bible provides numerous references and teachings on the importance of kindness, emphasising its role in fostering community, healing relationships, and demonstrating the transformative power of God’s love.
In summary, kindness is a vital component of the Christian faith, deeply rooted in the character of God and exemplified in the life of Jesus Christ. It is a fruit of the Spirit that believers are called to cultivate, reflecting God’s love and grace to a world in need. Through acts of kindness, Christians can demonstrate the transformative power of the gospel and invite others into a relationship with the Saviour.
Paul teaches us that although kindness is a fruit of the Spirit, we ourselves must make a choice to clothe ourselves with it. That choice might make all the difference to someone else. And it was God’s kindness, through Christ, towards us that led us to return to Him.
Dear Lord,
I will be eternally grateful for Your kindness, but I also appreciate the kindness of others which has made a difference in my life. Help me always to clothe myself with Your kindness, a fruit of the Holy Spirit, so that others may find out how much You care for them too. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
