24 July 2025 – What have I learned today?

Romans chapter 8 verse 18 (NIV)

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Some people like to make comparisons. Whether it’s about something as simple as what we wear, or whether it’s about our perceived talents or successes. There are some who even compare their hardship and suffering and take a false sense of pride over how they measure up.

But Paul reminds us that any suffering produces fruit in our lives if we will let it. It produces evidence of the glory of God, at a depth that puts our suffering into complete perspective. Speaking of perspective, if we keep our eyes on Jesus’ during any time of hardship and suffering, and we remember just what He went through for us, then our suffering is nothing in the light of that.

Dear Lord,

Help me to remember that any suffering will bring us closer to You, if we let it, and refines us so that Your glory is revealed even in us. So let me draw closer to You, and never compare my circumstances to others. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
