1 August 2025 – What have I learned today?

Romans chapter 14 verses 19-22 (NIV)

Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a person to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble.  It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall. So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves.

Bit of a follow on from yesterday. Paul continues to instruct how we should conduct ourselves. Although he talks about issues relating to food and drink, as this is what was relevant at the time, his teaching can apply to any aspects of our life as it may impact on others, such as manner of dress, music and TV. Paul tells the Romans not to destroy the work of God for the sake of food. That can apply to these other things too. He tells us that whatever we believe about these things, we should keep them to ourselves and God. If God wants someone to change their habits or behaviour, He is able to speak to them about it, and if they are sincere in their desire to follow Him, then they will obedient to Him, just as we should be. So as new people come in to join us in fellowship, let’s not get caught up with their habits and behaviour, let’s leave that to God.

Dear Lord,

Help me not to get caught up in the habits and behaviour of others, and seek only in my own to please You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
