4 August 2025 – What have I learned today?

2 Chronicles chapter 18 verse 14 (NIV)

David reigned over all Israel, doing what was just and right for all his people.

This verse highlights another difference between David and his predecessor Saul. Saul was concerned about what people thought about him. David’s concern was not about himself but about what was just and right for others. Yesterday at church the person leading the worship reminded us of a quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer. “Your life as a Christian should make non-believers question their disbelief in God.” Our life is not intended to be lived to please ourselves, but to reflect Christ in us the hope of glory. Saul quickly forgot what God had done for him. David did not. Throughout the history of the kings of Israel and Judah we see that when the King followed God, so did the people. When the King didn’t follow God, neither did the people. Thus our example of our Christian life can impact people. Let’s follow David’s example and let people see Jesus in us.

Dear Lord,

David had his faults and flaws but he had a heart for You. May that be true also of me. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
