1 Corinthians chapter 1 verses 22-24 (NIV)
Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
People will have different expectations of Christ. The sceptics today look for signs, just as some of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day did. Some look for teaching that fits in with their beliefs and intellect, just as the ancient Greeks. Even us Christians sometimes put demands on what we expect from Him.
But Christ puts demands on us too. To those He calls, He promises both power and wisdom so that we can do what He has called us too. But He also expects obedience, and for us to ask prayerfully, “Lord, what do You want from me?”
Dear Lord,
Thank You that Your requirements from us are not onerous, harsh or impossible. You require a willing heart and total obedience from us, then You will take care of the rest. Lord, grant me that willing heart that makes me totally obedient without question. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
