2 Corinthians chapter 5 verses 9 – 10 (NIV)
So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
It can be good to set ourselves goals or targets. They can help us to keep on track. But these verses caught my attention today. Paul teaches us that as followers of Jesus, our primary goal should be to please God. But I just wonder how often that is the focus for the tasks that I’m doing? It should be, for are we also not taught, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians chapter 10 verse 31 – NIV)
Dear Lord,
Help me to remember not to be a people pleaser and especially not to put my own pleasure before that of others. Help me to remember to make it my primary goal to please You. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
