14 September 2025 – What have I learned today?

Isaiah Chapter 35 verse 8 (NIV)

And a highway will be there;

    it will be called the Way of Holiness;

   it will be for those who walk on that Way.

When you set off on a journey, if you’re heading off to somewhere you’ve never been before, you might need to plan your journey, look at a map, and make sure from time to time that you’re on the right road. These days we might just punch in the destination to our Sat Nav and take our directions from that.

When we decide to follow Jesus and set out on our journey of faith, we know what our destination is, but not necessarily how or when we will get there. It is God Himself who has mapped out our route, and even the best road for us to walk on. Too often we ignore His directions and take matters into our own hands. That only leads to frustration and delay; how many times has this happened to us on a road trip, and we know just how that feels.

When we take the time to realise that God has our journey all mapped out, it should take the pressure of us, and allow us the time and opportunity to enjoy the journey. The verses that follow this one in the book of Isaiah tell us much more of the benefits of walking in the way God has designed. I certainly would prefer to avoid delays that don’t need to be endured, and are often caused by my own actions.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for planning the best route for me on this journey of faith. Help me to follow Your direction and not be tempted to look for a short cut. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
