Lamentations chapter 3 verses 21-24 (NIV)
Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
Jeremiah did not have an easy time.. But in the midst of his trials and suffering, we find in this portion of scripture one of the most encouraging teachings about the character of God. But to me the most important lesson from these verses for today is the fact that Jeremiah made the effort to call to mind that which was worth holding on to – God’s love, faithfulness and compassion. He didn’t waste his time feeling sorry for himself. He focused on what was important, right and true, and therefore when we find ourselves in our own time of difficulty or trial, we should follow Jeremiah’s example and do the same.
Dear Lord,
Thank you that your faithfulness, love and compassion never fail. Help me to always keep that truth at the forefront of my mind, especially in times of difficulty. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
