Psalm 119 verse 176 (NIV)
I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.
David was a shepherd. He must have gone after many lost sheep in his youth. We know the Parable of the lost sheep which Jesus taught, yet here we see David praying the Parable years before Jesus taught the crowds.
David recognises that he has strayed, yet he is confident that God will bring him back to the place where he needs to be – close to God.
This foreshadows why Jesus came as the Good Shepherd, and proves to us what the Father’s plan was, even before it came to pass through Jesus. It’s a reminder also that although all of God’s plans for us may not yet have been fully realised, He will always give us little pointers and encouragement along the way.
Dear Lord,
This verse reminds me how much and how long You have loved us. Thank You, Lord Jesus for being my Good Shepherd. Help me to stay close to You. Amen.
