Ezekiel chapter 13 verses 1-3 (NIV)
The word of the LORD came to me: “Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who are now prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination: ‘Hear the word of the LORD! This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!
At the beginning of this chapter, and the following two, we are tod by Ezekiel that the word of the Lord came to him. The lessons that I have taken from this are that when God spoke to Ezekiel, Ezekiel acted. This was in contrast to the people he had to bring the message to – it was clear they didn’t listen.
When God’s word comes to us we also have a choice – to listen and act on it, or, like the false prophets that Ezekiel speaks of here, and follow our own ways and see nothing. The wise choice would be to follow Ezekiel’s example.
Dear Lord,
We should never take for granted that You speak to us. Thus we should be quick to listen and act. Help me to do so I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
