Proverbs Chapter 21 verse 23 (NIV)
Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings.
Romans chapter 11 verse 29 (NIV)
For God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.
This verse in Proverbs reminded me today of the wonder of God’s grace. It also shows how different our attitude can be to God’s. When we sincerely repent and pay heed to God, He doesn’t hold our past sins against us. He will speak to us and teach us His ways and put us back on the right paths. That verse reminded me of what Paul taught the roman Church; that God’s gifts and His call are irrevocable. He will pick us up and use us again if we have repented and are willing to be obedient. That is indeed evidence of God’s grace.
If we think of our own response when we have been let down by someone, I’m not sure we are as gracious as God. Are we prepared to trust them again if they have asked for forgiveness and another chance, or are we wary to do that. Do we share our thoughts and plans with them, or is it a case of “once bitten twice shy”? If so, perhaps we need to remember the verse in Proverbs, and give thanks to God for His forgiveness to us.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for not holding my past sins against me that have been covered by the blood of Jesus. Help me not to hold and bear grudges against any who have perhaps caused me problems in the past. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
