Genesis chapter 30 verse 27 (NIV)
But Laban said to him, “If I have found favour in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by divination that the LORD has blessed me because of you.”
God had promised Jacob’s grandfather Abraham that all nations would be blessed by his descendents. (Genesis 12: 1-3) It was God’s intention that Israel would be a blessing to others. This verse in chapter 30 seems to point to the start of this. Even although Jacob’s uncle Laban did not seem to follow God, at least at this point, he testifies to the fact that he is being blessed because of Jacob.
The same should apply to us as Christians. We should not always look to be blessed by God, but rather to be a blessing to others. After all we have the Holy Spirit within us, and by carrying His presence we should have an impact on those who cross our path. Seeing others being blessed by God should also be a blessing to us, and if God chooses to use us as a means to bless other lives, that is indeed a privilege.
Dear Lord,
I am grateful for every blessing I have received from You, and there are a multitude, both directly from You, and also through the ministry of others. May I too be a vessel in Your hands to pass on Your love and blessings to others. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
