16 January 2026 – What have I learned today?

Proverbs Chapter 2 verses 1-5 (NIV)

My son, if you accept my words

and store up my commands within you,

  turning your ear to wisdom

and applying your heart to understanding— indeed, if you call out for insight

  and cry aloud for understanding,

and if you look for it as for silver

and search for it as for hidden treasure,

then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

In the winter time, I always make sure that I have plenty of staples in the cupboard and in the freezer in the event that any bad weather might hamper my grocery deliveries. It’s always good to be prepared.

In the beginning of this chapter of the book of Proverbs we are counselled to store up God’s word and command on our hearts. By doing so, and applying them to the different situations we find ourselves in. By storing up God’s word we are making sure that we are spiritually prepared. It means that we will not get caught out and we will have the guidance and means to respond to our circumstances. We must however make the effort to be prepared, just as I must also  make sure I top up the supplies in my kitchen cupboard.

Dear Lord,

Thank You that if I make the effort to apply your teaching to my life, I will be storing up wisdom and guidance for the circumstances that cross my path. Help me to make sure I tune my ear to Your wisdom. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
