Matthew chapter 26 verses 51-54 (NIV)
With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?”
Jesus had specifically told His disciples on more than one occasion exactly what was going to happen to Him. However, they couldn’t comprehend it, or didn’t want to believe it. So initially at the time of His arrest, they tried to take matters into their own hands. But Jesus rebuked them and reminded them that this was all prophesied in scripture. This was the out working of His Father’s plan. Anything else was not God’s will, no matter how it seemed.
Sometimes we don’t understand how circumstances in our own lives are part of God’s plan for us, and we may try to take matters into our own hands, and need a reminder, rebuke if necessary to let God’s plan for us be fulfilled, however difficult it may seem to be.
Dear Lord,
Thank You for this reminder to trust Your will and Your plan for my life and not take matters into my own hands. I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
