Numbers chapter 26 verses 63-65 (NIV)
These are the ones counted by Moses and Eleazar the priest when they counted the Israelites on the plains of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho. Not one of them was among those counted by Moses and Aaron the priest when they counted the Israelites in the Desert of Sinai. For the LORD had told those Israelites they would surely die in the wilderness, and not one of them was left except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.
This reminder is proof that God always does what He says. God told the Israelites when they rebelled against entering the land, that those initially counted at the time of the Exodus would die in the desert. The subsequent census is proof of that. God is not a man that He should lie. It may be that it there will be a significant time before what God has said comes to pass. In Israel’s case it took 40 years. But as we saw in the story of Balaam, yesterday God always keeps His Word. (God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? – Numbers 23:19)Dear Lord, Thank You for the reminder that we can always trust Your word, no matter how long it takes to be fulfilled. Help me not to get weary in waiting. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
