Numbers chapter 23 verses 33 – 34 (NIV)
“‘Do not pollute the land where you are. Bloodshed pollutes the land, and atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it. Do not defile the land where you live and where I dwell, for I, the LORD, dwell among the Israelites.’”
Although these verses are about the physical land God was leading Israel into, I was struck on this, Good Friday, by the words, “… atonement cannot be made for the land on which blood has been shed, except by the blood of the one who shed it.”
It reminded me that I can do nothing at all to make atonement for my sin, but by the shedding of His blood on the cross, Jesus made full atonement for me. Surely something truly worth giving thanks for today!
Dear Lord,
I know I couldn’t pay the price required to atone for my sin. As I consider the sacrifice that Jesus made to pay the price for my sin, I can only give You the gratitude of my heart. Amen.
