Deuteronomy chapter 4: verses 21-24 (NIV)
The LORD was angry with me because of you, and he solemnly swore that I would not cross the Jordan and enter the good land the LORD your God is giving you as your inheritance. I will die in this land; I will not cross the Jordan; but you are about to cross over and take possession of that good land. Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the LORD your God has forbidden. For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Moses led the people faithfully for almost forty years. They tried his patience many times when they groaned and complained. But sadly, after many years, Moses finally lost the plot and struck the rock instead of speaking to it. He let his temper get the better of him. My mum always said that, “two wrongs don’t make a right.” That’s a very true saying. Even when we are provoked we need to remember who we represent. We cannot justify losing control, even if we feel we are in the right. After all, how many times was Jesus bombarded by questions from religious leaders which were an attempt to catch Him out. He maintained calm and integrity and lives were touched and changed. If we struggle because we are under attack by others, we can pray and ask for help from the Holy Spirit.
Dear Lord,
Help me to ensure that my emotions don’t get in the way, and detract from Your will. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
