21 April 2026 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 49 verses 7-9 (NIV)

No one can redeem the life of another

or give to God a ransom for them—

the ransom for a life is costly,

   no payment is ever enough—

so that they should live on forever

   and not see decay.

The whole Bible gives us insights into God’s plan of redemption right from the fall. Here we are reminded in this psalm of every life’s need for redemption and of the fact that we ourselves can do nothing to achieve that.

We are further reminded that the price required is so costly that we can’t achieve it.

But Jesus was the only one who could, and did it willingly. If ever we needed to be reminded of how much He has done for us, we can see it summed up perfectly in these verses in Psalm 49.

“He paid a debt He did not owe, I owed a debt I could not pay, I needed someone to wash my sins away; And now I sing a brand new song,

‘Amazing Grace,’ Christ Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay.”

Dear Lord,

We will never fully understand what it cost Jesus to redeem us but we can be eternally grateful. Thank you doesn’t seem enough. Never let me take that gift for granted. I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
