2 May 2026 – What have I learned today?

Joshua chapter 22 verses 1-5 (NIV)

Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh and said to them, “You have done all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and you have obeyed me in everything I commanded.  For a long time now—to this very day—you have not deserted your fellow Israelites but have carried out the mission the LORD your God gave you.  Now that the LORD your God has given them rest as he promised, return to your homes in the land that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan.  But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

The tribes who asked for their inheritance on the other side of the Jordan were given a commission by Moses. They had to help their fellow Israelites conquer their territories. It meant leaving their families behind in their new homes. But we read here that they were obedient to all that was required of them, even although it must have been very hard for them. They remained faithful.

Joshua reminded them that even although their commission was complete, they were to continue walking in obedience to whatever else God required them to do. So also with us. If we are faithful to God in one task, however difficult it may have been for us, we haven’t earned the right to put our feet up, or take our foot off the gas. We need to be equally faithful in the next task.

Dear Lord,

Help me to be faithful in every task You require of me. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
