Joshua chapter 24 verses 14-15 (NIV)
“Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
Joshua lived to be 110 years old. He concluded this address to the people of the Israel just before his death, yet he told them that he had chosen to continue to follow God as wholeheartedly as he had done his whole life up to this point. It was a continual decision, not just a one off. In my opinion it was the renewal of this decision throughout his life that kept him on the right path right up to the day he died.
We too must choose daily how we will live. Will we daily clothe ourselves with the robes of righteousness and the armour of God that He has given us? He expects us to. We shouldn’t expect to take a holiday from doing God’s will.
Dear Lord,
Help me to choose daily to put on my garments of praise, the robes of righteousness You have given me, along with the armour of God. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
