11 May 2026 – What have I learned today?

Psalm 59 verses 9-10 (NIV)

 You are my strength, I watch for you;

   you, God, are my fortress,

  my God on whom I can rely.

Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 13 (NIV)

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

My mum wasn’t over protective but there were certain times when I knew she was looking out for me as I grew older. On important days, like my first day at high school, and my first day at work when she would either be standing at the window or at the front gate watching for me coming. One of the buses I could get home in my early working days passed the house and stopped only four doors down so she would be certain that I would be getting off. The alternate bus went a different route so I had a little further to walk home. That didn’t stop her watching though, and if she saw me coming she would wave, and of course I always waved back.

The verses in Psalm 59 are a reminder that we can rely on God, and also that He will protect us. It also encourages us to look out for God’s hand on our lives. God promised the prophet Jeremiah that He would be found if Jeremiah sought the Lord with his whole heart. What a promise and what a reassurance! Yet too often we look in other places for our help and support when God wants us to be watching for Him.
