16 May 2026 – What have I learned today?

Ruth chapter 2 verses 1-3 (NIV)

Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side, a man of standing from the clan of Elimelek, whose name was Boaz. And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favour. ”Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.”  So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.

There were four words that caught my attention today. Verse 3 of this chapter begins with the words, “as it turned out…”

It’s written in a very matter of fact way, but actually reminds us of something very encouraging. God knows what He is doing. Ruth didn’t know of the connection to Boaz. But it was no coincidence that she went to work in his field.

Naomi and Ruth were in a very precarious situation. At this point they didn’t know how things were going to work for them. But God did. His plans were being out worked.

We don’t always know how things are going to work out for us. Sometimes we may even try to engineer things, like Abraham and Sarah did, but that can get us into trouble. God, however knows what He’s doing. We can trust Him to work things out.

Dear Lord,

It’s a comfort to know that You always know how things are going to turn out. You are always in control. What a blessing that is for us in these turbulent times worldwide. Thank You for your hand and direction on my life. Amen.
