Proverbs chapter 14 verse 12 (NIV)
There is a way that appears to be right,
but in the end it leads to death.
If we ever need a reminder to be sure to seek God’s will about the decisions that we take, then this verse in Proverbs is that.
When we have our heart set on a particular course, it can be easy to take our eyes off the road. Even if we are on the right road, we can’t afford to do that. It might lead us into trouble. God promised that Abraham would have a son in his old age, but Abraham took matters into his own hands to try and achieve God’s ends, and we are still seeing the consequences of that in the Middle East today.
God doesn’t need our help accomplishing His plans, even if we think it’s a good idea. He wants our obedience – that way we won’t go wrong.
Dear Lord,
Help me to remember that You don’t need our good ideas, You require our complete obedience. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
