Romans chapter 4 verses 19-21 (NIV)
Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead —since he was about a hundred years old —and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.
Sometimes when we face the facts of the circumstances we are in, things can look really tough and there seems to be no getting away from the facts as they are. Sometimes, however, there is a “but God” that He expects us to hold on to I spite of those facts. There was no doubting Abraham and Sarah’s ages. Everyone knew they were old. That fact is undisputed.
But God promised that Sarah would bear Abraham a son. Abraham held onto that. And another important issue that I’d never noticed before reads, “… but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God…”
If we’re holding on to a promise God has given us that seems a long time in coming to pass, we may become weary. But God knows our heart and our faith. If we need encouragement and strength along the way, He won’t withhold it from us. All we need to do is ask.
Dear Lord,
Your word says that no good gift will you withhold to those who walk up rightly. I ask therefore for grace and strength to hold fast to Your promises when the facts of my circumstances appear to dispute them. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
