Proverbs chapter 17 verse 27 (NIV)
The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint,
and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
I think it’s a fact that if we are confident in what we know to be true, we don’t need to use flowery, or even many, words. Our actions can speak louder than our words.
Also if we can show mercy and understanding rather than reacting when someone tries to wind us up, we are more likely not to get uptight or to lose our temper.
Sometimes when we launch out into great, long speeches, or when we allow our emotions to lead our response, we lose the opportunity to make our point effectively. It’s not always easy, and is the reason that we should ask God for wisdom.
Dear Lord,
Help me to know when to speak and when to keep quiet, and never to respond when someone tries to wind me up. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
