1 Chronicles chapter 17 verses 1-4 (NIV)
After David was settled in his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent. ”Nathan replied to David, “Whatever you have in mind, do it, for God is with you.”But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying: “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in. ‘
These verses are a reminder to us that even if something seems like a really good idea, we need to get God’s permission to go ahead.
David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Lord, and initially Nathan the prophet appears to encourage it. Until God clearly tells him that David is not the one to do it.
It was a great plan, but Nathan had to be told that it was not David’s job to execute it.
Our idea may well be a sound, God approved one, but it might not be our job to take it forward. We need to be sure we know God’s mind on the matter and don’t bash on even with the best of intentions.
Dear Lord,
My plans may seem right and just but they may still be different from Yours so help me seek Your will in all these things.. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
