10 August 2026 – What have I learned today?

2 Chronicles chapter 1 verse 7(NIV)

That night God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”

God doesn’t grant wishes. He was testing Solomon’s heart. Solomon was in a privileged, important position. He was to rule over God’s chosen people. His heart at this point in his life, wanted to do what was right and God honoured his request for wisdom, and then gave him so much more. But sadly, at the end of his reign, he lost his desire to follow God like his father, David. His heart had been turned aside by all the trapping of his kingship.

Jesus tells us to “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew chapter 6 verse 33.) If we are careful to always do that then we will avoid Solomon’s mistake. If God blesses us with other things, including material ones, we must always remember to fix our eyes on the one who blesses and not get distracted by the blessing.

Dear Lord,

I am grateful for every blessing You have poured out on my life. But I also remember that without the sacrifice of Christ and Your love for me, I would have nothing and am nothing. Thank You. Amen.
