Luke Chapter 11- Verses 27-28 (NLT Translation)
As he was speaking, a woman in the crowd called out, “God bless your mother—the womb from which you came, and the breasts that nursed you!”
Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”
I don’t think Jesus was making light of the compliment being made to His mother. In a way He was telling us that we should be following her example. After all, she was totally obedient to God in her own life, and said, “I am the Lord’s servant…” (Luke 1:38)
Lots of people went to hear what Jesus had to say, and marvel at the miracles He performed. But here He reminds people that the blessing doesn’t come from just listening, but acting on and obeying what God says – just like Mary did!
Dear Lord,
I know that listening to what You say is not enough. Help me to do what You tell me to. I ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
