2 Corinthians chapter 5 verse 7 (NIV)
For we live by faith, not by sight.
This is a very familiar verse, yet it is the direct opposite to the maxim followed by many people. A familiar saying that confirms that is the one that says, “seeing is believing.” Even the late Queen Elizabeth the second felt that she had to be seen to be believed.
But God wants us to trust Him. When things don’t make sense, when we can’t see a way forward, He wants us to trust that He is still God and He is still in control.
It can be hard, especially if those around us, and perhaps even those close to us, are saying or believing something different. Wasn’t that what Jesus wanted Peter to do when he got out of boat to walk to Jesus? Peter started to sink when he looked at the waves and what was going on around him. He had taken his eyes off Jesus.
We may not see Jesus in the flesh but we can sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in us when we are living the way God wants us to.
We need to remember that always.
Dear Lord,
Help me not to rely on what I see, but on what I know of You. You have never let me down. Thank you. Amen.
